40 Days for Life - Houston - Day 16

"Why not choose adoption?"

Adoption in the pro-life community is so different than the horror stories that so many young pregnant moms fear.  Many of the volunteers and even Houston Coalition for Life staff have experienced a family member or a friend who have either placed their baby through adoption into a loving home or have adopted a baby into their family.

Today, once again on the sidewalk, another volunteer raised the questions, "Why abortion? Why not adoption?"

I was not at all surprised to hear that her son grew up with a dear friend in school who was adopted and as children they had no notice of the difference in skin color or how a child had entered into the family. They were family! They were friends. It wasn't an issue...she was a gift.  As the author, I too had a similar situation with a dear friend growing up.  As one woman, who had been adopted, used to say, "My siblings were home grown and I was hand picked...don't you wish you were hand picked?!"

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, "Abba, Father!" The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.'" Romans 8:14-17

Thank you to St. Martha Catholic Church for sponsoring this day of prayer for an end to abortion. Thank you also Kingwood Pro-life Women for all of the baby items you brought today and for the presentation in prayer outside of the Planned Parenthood as well! And thank you to all the individuals who came out to pray for an end to abortion!

As we unite with the International 40 Days for Life and their 375 locations around the world in prayer, we pray with them a specific prayer intention and scripture verse.

Oct 12th, Day 16:

Intention: Pray for the mothers going into pregnancy help centers. The personal care, the free ultrasound, the ongoing practical help is designed to deliver them from those who profit in shedding innocent blood.

Scripture:  Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28

The Big Blue Bus was blessed to have 12 visits. Of these women, 3 had a negative test, 6 had a new pregnancy and 3 came for a follow up visit. Sadly one of these women is still considering abortion. The other pregnant women are planning to parent. Please keep all of these women and their children in your prayers!

All praise and glory to God!
