A Life Deficit - Impacting Generations
At the Houston Coalition for Life, we are deeply grateful for the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the many lives that have been saved since that historic decision. Each time a mother chooses life for her preborn child, we celebrate the hope and future that choice represents. At the same time, we grieve the profound loss of life that still occurs every day. We know that we face a spiritual battle that can only be conquered with faithful prayer.
More than 65 million lives have been lost to abortion in the last 50 years – a staggering toll that echoes through generations. Abortion remains the leading cause of death in our nation and across the world, and the effects are felt not only spiritually and morally, but demographically. With a declining birth rate and a growing national debt, we face a future where economic and societal stability may falter – not because of a lack of resources, but because of a lack of people.
Each person has the potential to impact generations. Abortion ends not just a single life, but the possibility of future children and grandchildren. Just within 50 years of Roe, 65 million innocent lives were destroyed within their mother's womb. How many more generations are we willing to lose?
Despite these sobering realities, taxpayer-funded abortion continues, and organizations like Planned Parenthood receive hundreds of millions in federal support. In 2023-2024, their annual report revealed more than 400,000 abortions – a number released, perhaps most tragically, on Mother's Day. In Texas and beyond, the push to send women out of state for abortions continues, even as our country faces the lowest live birth rates in its history. Without the will to protect life, a nation doesn't need weapons to fall – it will quietly fade from within.
The causes of this painful reality are many – cultural, political, spiritual – but the responsibility belongs to all of us. Our society cannot flourish if it continues to disregard the value of its youngest members.
As Scripture reminds us, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth" (Genesis 1:28). The protection of innocent life is not only a biblical mandate – it is a reflection of the natural law upon which our country was founded.
At the Houston Coalition for Life, we remain committed to ending abortion peacefully and prayerfully by empowering the gift of motherhood and offering support to every woman facing an unexpected pregnancy. We recognize the dignity of both mother and child created in the image and likeness of God our creator. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, and with your help, we continue to save lives – one heart, one family, and one future at a time.
