40 DAYS FOR LIFE

40 Days for Life is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign done every spring and fall to unite the world in peaceful prayer to end abortion.

Since 2006, the Houston Coalition for Life has organized one of the longest-running 40 Days for Life campaigns in the world. Even though abortion is illegal in Texas and the Planned Parenthood on I45 shut down on September 30th, women are still seeking abortion information, and your prayer presence is still needed. As we enter this upcoming fall 40 Days for Life campaign, we do so with gratitude and discernment, asking: Where is God calling us now?

Abortion is not over in Texas. There are still four Planned Parenthood locations in Houston, referring women across state lines and directing them to websites that distribute abortion pills. These pills are widely available across the US, often obtained online and used in isolation. It is more important than ever that our community knows the sanctity of life and that life-affirming help exists.

The fall 40 Days for Life campaign will run through September 23rd - November 1st. During this campaign we are inviting you to pray for an end to abortion in either of the following ways.

  1. Host a one-hour prayer service or Holy Hour at your church on one or multiple days during this 40-day campaign, dedicated to the inherent value of every human life and to ending abortion.
  2. Pray outside of the Planned Parenthood on 290 and Hollister. This location is open Monday - Friday, but Saturday prayer vigils are welcome.

Please contact Christine Melchor at (713) 395-1330 for more information about how you can get involved.

There are only "5 rules" for the sidewalk:

  1. Do not park or walk on Planned Parenthood property or any other private property.
  2. If anyone approaches you, respond with the love of Christ.
  3. If you want to hold a sign, please request one provided by Houston Coalition for Life.
  4. Please focus on staying in a mode of prayer while you are out there.
  5. Please sign our Statement of Peace - English - Spanish

If you would like to get your church or group involved, you can become a Day Captain – or the coordinator for your church or group to make sure each hour from 7AM - 7PM is covered with prayer.

Please call (713) 395-1330 if you are interested in learning more.

FAQs

Why 40 Days?

God consistently uses the 40-day timeframe throughout salvation history to transform His people: Noah and the Flood, Moses on Mt. Sinai, and Jesus in the desert.

What do I pray for?

Our basic goal is to pray for a peaceful end to abortion. You can pray for the women facing a crisis pregnancy, the preborn children, the conversion of abortionists and others employed there, the passing of pro-life laws across our country and around the world, and the growth of a culture of life.
